Having been diagnosed with Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) in 1993, jaundice, exhaustion and episodes of confusion were an everyday part of Douglas’ life before he received his first liver transplant in 2005. Although unfortunately the PSC returned a few years later, Douglas was lucky enough to receive a second transplant in January last year and his health has been steadily improving ever since.
Douglas said: "My experience of the NHS has been very positive - it has kept me alive on two separate occasions. In my situation, the transplant co-ordinators, surgeons, consultants , doctors & nurses who are the NHS have been, and continue to be, professional, caring, and understanding. The result of their dedication is that I am still alive and able to enjoy my two sons growing up. For that I am eternally grateful."
